FAQs

Here are some frequently asked and important questions about 4S Math Club that you might need the answers to!

How do I know the appropriate Beast Academy level for me?

Note that you will have access to material at all levels, from level 1 to 5. Beast Academy recommends that students start at a level one bellow their grade level if they are not familiar with the material before. Beast Academy also offers a placement test that you can take to find your appropriate level. Here are the links to the placement tests:

Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5

Once you register and get access to the material (starting August 2024), you can try an appropriate level based on the placement tests, and then go up or down based on the student comfort level.

How do I know that 4S Math Club is the right fit for me?

4S Math Club is an informal not-for-profit group that works best for students who are self-motivated to learn and excel at math. It can also work well for students if parents/guardians are willing to participate in their learning process. Note that the club has only access to Beast Academy online material. The physical books might work better for some students, but we do not provide them. There are also other math classes with instructors that might work better for some students, and we do not provide this arrangement.

What can we expect from monthly math meetups?

Math meetups are sessions where students can get together with other students at the same level. Middle/High schoolers will provide guidance on navigating through the Beast Academy material and go over some problems and puzzles with students. These meetups are optional.  Students are expected to work on their lessons on a weekly basis on their own, perhaps with the help of their parents.

How much does enrollment cost? How do I pay?

The cost of enrollment is $70 per student for the entire academic year (Aug 2024 to July 2025). This is less expensive than enrolling directly on Beast Academy online. This is because we get a group discount. You can Venmo the payment as per the instruction in the enrollment page.

How much material should my student be covering every week?

Beast Academy provides planning resources that show how to sequence chapters at each level. We recommend at least 10 lessons per week to be able to cover the 12 chapters at a given level in a school year.

Will the material covered in 4S Math Club help students prepare for math competitions?

Yes. Beast Academy material is very useful for preparing towards math competitions. In addition, we will also be covering other material that we specifically pick out to help towards competitions such as MOEMS, Math Kangaroo, and Noetic Math.
